Lennon’s Returned MBE Is Discovered

The MBE rebelliously sent back to the Queen by John Lennon has been found in a royal vault - 40 years later.

An annoyed Lennon returned the insignia in protest over the Vietnam War, with Beatles fans assuming it had been melted down and lost forever.

Calls have already been made for the recovered memorabilia to be put on public display, but a Buckingham Palace spokesperson has said that any decision about its future should lie with Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono.

Leona Lewis Signs Autobiography Deal

Leona Lewis

X Factor winner turned global phenomenon Leona Lewis has inked a deal with publishers Hodder & Stoughton to release her autobiography in October.

The book will include more than 100 new photographs (and possibly even some words) and is expected to drop shortly before Lewis’ second album, the follow-up to the 5 million-selling ‘Spirit’. 23-year-old Lewis said:

“The last two years have been an unbelievable experience for me.” No, really?

Hodder & Stoughton editor Fenella Bates made more an effort to ‘big it up’, saying:

“This will be the first time Leona tells her story of how the X Factor launched her from waitressing in Pizza Hut in Hackney to stardom on both sides of the Atlantic. It is a real-life fairytale and every girl’s dream.”

Royksopp Return With ‘Junior’

Exciting news for fans of chilled-out Norwegian electro duos: Royksopp are back! The Scandinavian twosome return on March 23rd with ‘Junior’, their third album and first since 2005’s ‘The Understanding’.

What makes this news even more exciting is that they’ve brought some friends along with them, namely: Robyn, Lykke Li, Anneli Drecker and Karin Dreijer-Andersson (The Knife).

See the ‘What Else Is There (Trentemoller Remix)’, above, for a reminder of how brilliant a Royksopp/Karin Dreijer-Andersson collaboration can be.

A single, ‘Happy Up Here’, precedes the album on March 9th, but if you can’t wait that long you can currently download a strange little freebie (entitled ‘Happy Birthday’) from their website.

U2 Prepare Multi-Format Bonanza For New Album

U2\'s Bono

In the five years since U2’s last album, ‘How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb’, a lot has changed in the music industry. Perhaps aware of this, the Irish rockers have announced plans to release their new album ‘No Line on the Horizon’ on - wait for it - FIVE different formats.

Billboard reports that the record will be available as a standard CD (yawn), on double vinyl (whatever) and on three limited editions (yippee! Raid the piggy bank!)

Wealthy U2 fans can snap up a digipack version with a 36-page booklet, a ‘magazine’ version with a 60-page booklet, and finally a box set edition containing a full-on hardback book and a DVD. (Or you could just download it…)

‘No Line on the Horizon’ will be released worldwide on Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd March.

Yoko Gives Blessing For Lennon To Appear In Charity Advert

Yoko Ono has given permission for her late husband John Lennon’s image and ‘voice’ to be used in a charity advert.

We say ‘voice’ because we’re struggling to believe that’s actually him speaking, or that he just happened to have spoken and recorded the exact words required to script a charity advert made thirty years after his death…

Rockers: Beware!

Rock fans have been warned to tone down the headbanging or risk serious neck injury. Well duh!

Australian doctor Andrew McIntosh has researched the pastime and reports:

“We identified a definite risk of mild traumatic brain injury from headbanging. We would suggest a proper public health warning, as for smoking.

“Perhaps AC/DC should play something more appropriate, such as ‘Moon River’”.

We’ll stick to stage diving if that’s OK with you, doc.
